LOS ANGELES, CA (February 10, 2010) – Brothers Dr. Chad Moreau, expert fitness and nutrition consultant, and Edmonton Oilers Team Captain Ethan Moreau announce www.HockeyOT.com, an innovative, online training resource for hockey players of all skill levels. The website will officially launch with a public event called HockeyOT Training Combine at Edmonton’s Body by Bennett Gym Feb. 26-27, 2010.

Hockey Online Training (HockeyOT.com) is the premier online training website for hockey players 13 and older. HockeyOT.com generates a hockey-training program to an incredibly specific level taking into account an athlete’s age, height and weight, position, strengths and weaknesses, play level, personal goals, training experience and more. The site provides affordable, custom-tailored in-season and off-season workouts, keeping in mind an individual’s access to specific fitness equipment. Parents and coaches may also use HockeyOT.com to help develop young players.

“HockeyOT.com is extremely excited to deliver world-class training in a portable and affordable format for players of all skill levels,” says HockeyOT.com Founder Dr. Chad Moreau. “We recognize not every hockey player or coach has access to proven off-ice training methods; and we designed a web-based solution to fill this need.”

HockeyOT.com features expert video content with training demonstrations conducted by professional hockey players and routines are generated to optimize the athletic performance of each individual in order to achieve top results without injury. Each exercise is explained using not just video but text and photographs.  There are measurement tools that monitor progress and also serve as motivation for advancement to the next tier of fitness conditioning.

“Whether you train in a gym, your basement or garage, the HockeyOT.com program will generate a routine that remains accessible 24-hours a day from any location in the world with access to the Internet,” explains Moreau. “As each athlete progresses in training at his or her own pace, revised routines are created, which makes HockeyOT.com a long-term solution for long-term success.”

Dr. Chad Moreau, a former fitness and nutrition consultant for the Edmonton Oilers, founded Hockey Online Training, which is based in Los Angeles, CA. Active NHL players, including Jarrett Stoll of the Los Angeles Kings, Raffi Torres of the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Ethan Moreau and Shawn Horcoff of the Edmonton Oilers are also part owners in the company. Smart Energy Consumption and new technologies.

Posted: 11/11/2009 9:34 AM

Category: Business Strategy, personal

My day-to-day life is spent primarily in the innovation of technologies related to communication. It is where my focus lies and my ambitions are fueled. I do however follow, as much as I possibly can, other technology trends and innovations. This is kind of like studying stars however; it is impossible to keep a watchful eye on everything going on. The world is just changing too fast. You can however take a panoramic view and occasionally dig into points of interest.

I had the pleasure of spending time at a function a week or so ago with some gentlemen that are fusing some interesting technologies together to create sustainable communities. I found this very interesting. A few things began to resonate with me as I listened to them speak. Technology is entering the actual fabric of our day to day living in such a way that we will soon live in micro communities that have central nervous systems that manage everything from the septic, water, roads, electricity and heating. Why does this seem so interesting to me you might ask? I believe that the return of stable and prosperous economy will be greatly impacted by the way we handle technology, green energy, innovation and natural resources. This group pegged all of those important topics in one sitting. The construction of a community fusing green energy sources with the conventional power grid along with geothermal technologies to create a community that is self- sustainable is very exciting to me for a few different reasons. It limits our need for the conventional energy sources that we have taken for granted. It optimizes technology and innovation and it gets us one step closer to the moisture farms on Tatooine (Star Wars Joke ) sorry. On a serious note, the only thing that is stopping us from building communities that can deal with their own waste water, power and heat is a nominal 15% increase in land cost per household. That is not a good enough reason to see these communities not get off the ground. This is a necessary movement for our children. We need to begin change and breakdown the status quo when it comes to developing our communities.

Since that meeting I have spent some time studying the emerging energy technologies for what I will label “Micro Communities” or developments inside of a town or city. There is so much happening out there. Strides are being made every day to get us closer to where we need to be. It won’t be that easy but it needs to start somewhere. The first development will be expensive but as others start the prices of infrastructure will come down and eventually it will become common practice. I am sure everyone can remember spending a small fortune on your first computer to find out it was a glorified calculator with a big screen. The technology was adopted and soon the prices came down and the machines became more effective. This really isn’t any different. We need to just begin adoption of communities like this that represent innovation and strides to a richer cleaner life.

As Canadians we could take a little listen from a small group of developers trying to make strides to a different sort of lifestyle and community. We have somewhat dodged a bullet during this global recession. I know we have all felt the down turn but I can promise you that if you travel abroad at all you will realize just how lucky we are. In the midst of all of this global correction there is tremendous opportunity. We can spend more money on innovation. We can support initiatives that given the right time and space can become benchmarks for the future of energy consumption and community living. We can support technologies that are built in our own backyard and give them the horsepower to enter the global arena and we can create strides towards a greener country.

Here are a few videos from one of my favorite speakers.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

Another Thanksgiving is upon us and I for one have a lot to be thankful of.   I have a supportive wife and family who tolerate me even when the stresses can be seen on my face and actions.  My two girls are as perfect as I could dream of them being.  I have staff that daily performs incredible work.  I have an executive team that care about their product and the people around them.  I have partners that complement each other and have common goals.

I think it easy for all of us to get wrapped up in the bad things that we read in our news feeds.  The reality as Canadians is that we have extraordinary lives.   We have freedoms that some parts of the world may never know.  We have opportunities as great as we can imagine.  We have the ability to receive higher education and advance ourselves to higher earnings.  If we could just reflect on the positives and have some faith in each other and this great country this dark cloud will pass and brighter days will come.

This last year has made me think long and hard about the things I could be doing to make a difference in my community, environment, home and work place.  I have some ideas to that and will blog about them in the near future.

I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving and I wish you all the luck in the world.

Birthday Blog

Birthday Blog –

Another year has come and gone.  Today marks my 34th Birthday.  Its funny how every year at this time I reflect on the year past.  Most people find a way of doing this at New Years but for me my birthday has become my reflection time.

The last year has been the most difficult ever yet still somewhat rewarding.  As most of the hours of my life are spent in this chair at my office I measure most of my successes and failures from this seat.  My family is health and happy so I can’t ask for much more in that part of my life.  Business on the other hand has been incredibly taxing.  All of us serial entrepreneurs are feeling the pain of an economy none of us where ready to deal in.  Deals fell off the table that seemed certain, closed signs have been hung from offices and retail stores across the globe and borrowing money is like trying to pull teeth out of an alligator.

There is opportunity in these times and I think the last year for me has been particularly revealing.  I learned a lot about my resilience and how to see the way puzzles can be built in creative ways to form opportunity.  I am content with how committed I have been to the people in my life and the companies that I represent.  I think some things I could have done better but all in all I think I can chalk this birthday up as ok.   I haven’t always said that.   There have been years were I have fallen short in my yearly objective.

So in reflection, I have been fortunate to meet many great people this year, business is moving forward and my family is well.  What more could I ask for?

 Hockeyot.com

I am pleased to announce that we will be launching www.hockeyOT.com to the public in the next couple of weeks. HockeyOT is the brainchild of Ethan and Chad Moreau.  Chad is a well known fitness consultant formerly with the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL and Ethan is the Captain of the Oilers.  Ethan is known for his physical presence on the ice and is in pinnacle condition due to his training.  Chad has been on the leading edge of Hockey specific training for years and has spent the last 2 years applying his training methods to a new web portal that hockey players of all skill sets around the world can use.

A week or so ago, I had the opportunity to watch Chad give a demo on the product.  Even though we built the technology here at Statusfirm for this portal I had no idea just how powerful the tool was.  From basic nutrition to periodic training routines customized to the individual, this web portal is incredibly rich in content and capability.  The site features Shawn Horcoff of the Edmonton Oilers, Steve Staios of the Edmonton Oilers, Ethan Moreau of the Edmonton Oilers, Jason Smith of the Ottawa Senators, Jarret Stoll of the LA Kings and Raffi Torres of the Columbus Blue Jackets.  All of the routines are demonstrated by athletes on video to make individual training easy to follow.  Over 300 videos in total populate the site making this truly the best hockey training site around.  Check it out you won’t be disappointed.

I'm back

Hello Internet land,

I know I promised more activity on this bog and haven’t even come close to living up to that so I will try to keep my promise this time.  I hired a personal assistant that is keeping me in check so this time if I don’t deliver on my promise it will not be my fault.

So here is what is happening in my world.  I have started a new company that I will begin telling everyone about in the near future.  It involves some businessmen that I have the utmost respect for and am honored to work with.  It is very close to the company I was formerly the President of thus making it a subtle change.  It’s exciting and I have a new sense of energy and motivation.  I have decided to use my Bog as a diary of sorts of the building of this company so I will try to regularly update it.

So now that I have told you nothing of what I am doing I will sign off.  The next time I write a Bog it will be chapter one of the evolution of this venture.

I hope the world treats you well.

 Where have I been...?

I know it’s been quite a while since I’ve made my last blog post.  No excuse for that, really.  I will attempt to be better at that this year.  It’s my New Year’s resolution this month.

There have been lots of changes around the Statusfirm office over the past year, and it’s taken a lot of work to ensure that we’re ready for the next stage of our business.  We finished 2008 with a new corporate structure for our entertainment properties (CurlTV.com, TheEnergyNews.com and RawVegas.tv).  They are now standalone companies with other partners involved that will set the stage for growth while helping the Statusfirm management to focus on the goal of developing & marketing our technology.  The entertainment properties were invaluable in providing a proving ground on which our Core products were born and fostered into a mature platform.   For that, they have earned our loyalty and energy to see them grow even more.

Last year, Statusfirm released the Core Nucleus platform, followed by Core Standard and Core CFB.  These products (as many of you know) covered a wide spectrum of media management capabilities, primarily focused on video management and the tools needed for enterprise to manage and publish that media.

In 6 weeks Statusfirm will launch a new set of Core products:  Core Catalyst and Core CFB.  These products will now be built on the Core Framework and reside in the Core Unlimited cloud.  There is a lot of excitement around this launch, as now our Core products have evolved into the Software as a Service (SaaS) space.  We have channel partners across North America that will be bringing the product to market, and we have some very large clients (that we will soon announce) and we can now offer the entire spectrum of Web 2.0 solutions to both the smallest and largest organizations in the world.

It’s hard to explain just how far we have come in our few short years in a simple Blog... but if you keep watching you’ll see some very interesting things unfold!

On another note, I have to mention this awful economy... although I hate to, as I am quite tired of the negativity floating around the world right now.  Our lives have all been turned upside down over the last half-year and the way we do business has changed.  Statusfirm will not only survive this economic mess, we will prosper.  We have never been in a better position.  We build solutions that reduce carbon footprints, saves industry money, and makes knowledge more accessible with a simple computer.  We are an example of the next generation of business communication and, as the world take its new form, we are certain to be part of its new infrastructure.

Until next time,

CT

Guitars, Music, and Necessary Escapes

Posted: 05/20/2008 8:32 AM

Category: Guitar

So here is my post for May… and I promise I will try to do better at keeping my Blog updated. Also, I am trying to make it a lot less business-centric than it has been in the months. I want my Blog to be about real life and not business lessons. Maybe I’ll throw the odd lesson in, but it’ll be related specifically to my life.

The new Guitar Arrives……

This past week I took possession of my beautiful new hand-built guitar. I’ve been waiting for it for about 10 months. It was designed and built by George Rizsanyi, the builder of the “six string nation guitar”. In case you haven’t heard of this very special heritage guitar, 63 pieces of wood representing Canadian history… ranging from Paul Henderson’s hockey stick to a piece of Massey Hall… where used to build this historic, one-of-a-kind instrument. You can see it at http://www.flickr.com/photos/sixstringnation/sets/ and http://sixstringnation.com/en/.

George is a true artist and certainly held nothing back on my guitar when he built it. It was built from wood representing three important pieces of my history (not sixty three - I’m not a country) and sounds like nothing I have ever heard. The first piece of wood found in the neck of the instrument is a piece of the famous Nova Scotia schooner, “The Blue Nose”. I was born in Nova Scotia so it was very fitting that it be a major piece. The second piece which framed the inside of the guitar was built from the longest covered bridge in the world in Hartland, New Brunswick, which is where I spent most of my early years. The third piece, a piece of the Hartland High School stage (the first I ever performed on) was used to create the cosmetics of the guitar around the sound hole. And finally, the main body and back of the guitar is made from an incredible piece of 200 year old Brazillian rose wood. I have no idea where George got it from, but it's absolutely stunning to look at.

You can see it on my Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=49611&id=693605785.

It’s truly a surreal experience to possess such an instrument. Not only do have I have a guitar that plays like a dream, but I now own something of my history that will become part of my children’s history.

The unexpected benefit of receiving this instrument is that I have began to play a lot again... something I have done little of in recent years. I have rediscovered the escape that is music. I had forgotten the power of that. I live a bit of a crazy life filled with stress and seemingly impossible situations. That’s what I do. I’m a problem solver and I don’t think you’ll ever hear me complain about it. But it’s virtually impossible not to carry some of that home with you from time to time. Like most serial entrepreneurs, I get sleep deprived and sometimes have a hard time slowing my brain down and getting back in touch with life’s basics like hanging with my little princesses. It’s amazing what a little butchering of a good song on my new gee-tar will do to relax my mind. Isn’t it amazing what a simple little distraction can do to cure a clogged mind. I feel renewed and I’m making it a habit to pick my new toy up everyday and take it for a little burn.

Gretzky Camp, M & A and the Entrepreneurial Cycle.

Posted: 01/14/2008 4:47 PM

Category: Statusfirm, Hockey, Business Strategy

The title of this blog may cause a little confusion, so I will take the time to clarify a little. Just a little, though.

I just returned from Wayne Gretzky’s fantasy camp. It truly is one of the best experiences I have ever had. It’s a place for aging males to try to relive the glory years they never had by paying to play hockey with some immortal ex-NHL pros.

It’s primarily filled with entrepreneurs and highly paid executive types, as the price of admission is a little higher than a weekend in Banff. It’s for a good cause though, and the professionals that come to camp make it an experience that brings familiar faces back year after year. Gretzky and his brother in law Mike Brown are everything that you would expect and more – and the camp gives a large percentage of the proceeds to the Gretzky Foundation.

There are two reasons why I do this every year, and will continue as long as Mr. Gretzky continues to host the camp.

When you’re an entrepreneur, it seems impossible to turn your brain off. Your vacations usually come in 7 day intervals (if you get them at all), and you spend the first 5 trying to not think about the things that are not getting done because you’re on vacation. However, at camp you don’t have time to think about business because you’re too busy trying to pretend you’re a hockey pro. It gives me an opportunity to spend my free time thinking about life, and family, with a much clearer view than usual.

Secondly, I get to appreciate other successful businessmen in recreation mode. You can tell the ones who have achieved balance. You can learn so much by listening.

It makes me laugh a little when I see all the guys at camp heading to the rink for the first time, acting all relaxed and just looking for a good time. That is, of course, until the skates get laced up. I think entrepreneurs are the most competitive of competitors… so how could you possibly put a bus full of them on a sheet of ice and not expect a true match up? It’s great. I love playing with other guys who hate to loose. It makes the camp that much more fun. We all know how to let the losses go after the game, and kick back with a cocktail, reliving the goals we almost made and the passes we almost got off.

That gets me to my second and third points of this blog entry. I’ve been in the middle of some interesting potential business acquisitions lately. I have to tell you, nothing knocks me out like this stuff. I was born, I think, to just get things done. It truly is a brilliant work place right now, and I think the market is positioning for more opportunity and drastic change. It’s just that the process of these things sometimes just makes me want to stick a pen in my eyeball. One of the things I’ve noticed is just how many startup companies’ executives are in a cycle of sorts. The more I talk to people, the more I see that I’m not the only person like this. It seems that every 5 years or so an entrepreneur buys, sells or reinvents. This may seem like a given, but think about it for a moment.

A person who has put everything on the line to create a business legacy is buying, selling, merging or reinventing. There are a lot of reasons for it: changing economy, market share, integration. I think the biggest reason is that the most aggressive, hardest working, most creative people burn themselves out much quicker than most (if they are not careful), and change is a tactic for survival. It’s like running across the desert with your backpack full of rocks on while everyone else is just walking with their water bottle in hand. You’ll get to all of the greatest opportunities first, but not without consequence. Sometimes making a deal to run with someone else will give you a boost of willpower, or perhaps the sight of water will inspire you to keep going. Nonetheless, there is definitely a burn out point that can either create opportunity or disaster.

As an employer, I try to be mindful of this when watching key staff members under pressure. I have also learned that if I don’t want to fall victim of the cycle myself, I have to be mindful of my own capabilities and know when to stop for a breath and some good advice.

There is something my dad use to say to me when I was young: “In great counsel comes great wisdom”. The way for an entrepreneur to not make the dangerous decision during these cycles is to find the counsel of people who can aid in the decision when our focus becomes blurred. A wise friend can be powerful thing. I think too often we don’t reach out to them.

Anyway, enough rambling. Cheers and be well.

More Hockey I’m Sorry

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/070625

I read the above blog a couple of days ago and had a laugh. I won’t get into it too much… just click the link and read away. It’s too funny. I love the NHL game and everything, but this guy really knows how to give it out, you’ve got to give him props.

Anyway, off to business… so I guess I’m not TOO sorry about talking about hockey too much.

Raw Vegas, our entertainment network, is on the tear, the viewership during the World Series of Poker is great and we are getting some attention from some heavy players in the broaddband world.

I have to give tons of credit to Steve (Chops) Preiss the President of our trophy project in Vegas - and his two PR side kicks from Wicked PR, Brian and Colin. Those guys have done a great job spreading the good word of Raw Vegas. http://www.rawvegas.tv/ needs to be your morning interactive breakfast if it isn’t already. It will help you get your happysmile on I promise. Much better than P&J. It’s about time someone created a made-for-web entertainment portal. The fact thats it’s based around the most ridiculously cool city in the world is even better. So, here’s to Barrett, Denise, Daniel, Phil and the rest of them for making my day better every day. I’m glad to be part of this thing. It’s a blast. I wish I could transport myself into the seat next to Newby and help produce this stuff everyday. He probably wouldnt have me, though… He’s too good for me now, too Vegas….

http://www.rawvegas.tv/watch.php?vID=6aec08ded82fcadc5b6f6276ffcfa3 (My favorite video ever, better than Star Wars… Weeelllll, maybe not Star Wars, but it’s really good!)

Hope all is well, everyone in Internetland. Talk to you again soon.
